What are micro fulfilment hubs or 'dark stores'?
They are small & compact storage facilities strategically spread across high density urban areas for the main objective of last mile fulfilment, that are in close proximity to the final mile recipient.
How the concept works
Unlike traditional warehouses that are usually large-scaled, micro fulfillment hubs and 'dark stores', are far smaller in size.
This means that warehouses and its inventory can be located closer to the final mile recipient.
Using predictive artificial intelligence & machine learning, a curated range of inventory are stored in selected hubs within the network.
Once the relevant orders are requested, inventory from the nearest micro fulfilment hubs can be dispatched.
This enables the final mile to be fulfilled at close proximity of a few hundred metres to 2km maximum, resulting in faster delivery time and lower transportation costs.
